In a heartening display of community service, World Vision Optics (WVO), our strategic partner, showed the path to a brighter future for over 200 students at SK Sungai Manggis in Banting, Selangor. On December 4th, 2023, WVO conducted a free eye check program, a major community initiative set to span this year and the next, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of underprivileged school children.
The core of this initiative lies in addressing a basic need—correcting the eyesight of deserving underprivileged students. A total of 10 children from SK Sungai Manggis, whose families face economic challenges, were gifted spectacles, empowering them to navigate their academic journeys without hindrance. The essence of the program is not merely corrective lenses but a gateway to unhindered education for those who need it the most.
WVO's reach extends beyond a single school. In collaboration with state education departments, the eye check program was launched in Negeri Sembilan in September 2023. Since then, 30 schools in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor have benefited from this impactful initiative, ensuring that more underprivileged children have access to the vision correction they require for effective learning.
The collaboration with WVO has opened multifaceted opportunities for school children, extending well beyond eye care. Through our joint efforts, students now have access to the BACA program, an initiative fostering a love for reading, an English Language Appreciation program to enhance language skills, and a significant contribution of storybooks that enrich their literary experiences.
This collaborative endeavor is not limited to specific schools—WVO and our organization extend an invitation for other educational institutions to join hands in this meaningful journey. By participating in the program, schools can offer their students the benefits of eye checks, educational programs, and a treasure trove of literature, creating an environment conducive to holistic learning.
Moreover, recognizing the pivotal role teachers play in shaping young minds, our collaboration with WVO includes a ChatGPT course designed to equip educators with tools to manage their teaching workload more effectively. This course aims to empower teachers, ensuring they can provide quality education while navigating the challenges of modern classrooms.
As we celebrate the success of the eye check program at SK Sungai Manggis, we look forward to expanding our collaborative efforts with WVO to more schools across Malaysia. Together, we strive to illuminate the futures of underprivileged students, ensuring they not only see clearly but also have the tools and opportunities to envision a brighter tomorrow.
