SMK Pasir Panjang, Port Dickson held launched English Corner

The creation of an English Corner in collaboration with Book Aid Malaysia at SMK Pasir Panjang, Port Dickson, is a commendable initiative that can significantly spur students' interest in reading books while diverting their attention from excessive use of smartphones and electronic gadgets. By aligning the launch with the English Week program and rewarding students who excel in English-based projects, the initiative creates a dynamic and motivating environment that promotes the habit of reading.

The English Corner serves as an inviting and comfortable space dedicated to reading and learning. With the donation of 100 English story books by Book Aid Asia, the collection becomes diverse and captivating, catering to a wide range of interests and reading levels. The presence of visually appealing books and a designated reading area encourages students to step away from their handphones and electronic gadgets and immerse themselves in the written word.

By rewarding students who excel in English-based projects, Book Aid Malaysia not only acknowledges their achievements but also reinforces the value of language proficiency and academic effort. This recognition acts as a positive incentive for other students to strive for excellence in their language skills and motivates them to explore the English Corner to discover more about the subject they excel in.

The English Corner becomes a focal point for building a reading culture within the school. As students visit the corner to read, share, and discuss books, a sense of community and camaraderie develops among avid readers. The presence of like-minded peers who enjoy reading encourages other students to explore books and participate in the reading community, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment.

The well-curated collection of story books in the English Corner offers students an alternative source of entertainment and knowledge. By exposing them to captivating stories and educational content, the English Corner highlights the pleasures and benefits of reading, making it a more appealing option than spending excessive time on electronic gadgets.

The English Week program's activities, such as short story-telling, easy writing, and drawing, offer students interactive ways to engage with language and literature. These activities promote creative expression and active participation, making reading a fun and enriching experience. As students actively participate in storytelling and creative writing, they develop a deeper connection with books and discover the joy of reading beyond the digital realm.

We believe the creation of an English Corner in collaboration with Book Aid Malaysia, along with the engaging English Week program, has the potential to kindle students' interest in reading books and draw their focus away from electronic gadgets. Through interactive activities, recognition of achievements, and fostering a reading community, students are encouraged to embrace the wonders of literature and develop a lasting love for reading. This initiative empowers them to become lifelong learners and opens doors to a world of knowledge and imagination beyond the digital landscape.
